EXTRAVAGANT JAPAN & GLANCE AT KOREA
TOKYO: Tokyo is Japan's capital and the world's most populous metropolis. It is also one of Japan's 47 prefectures, consisting of 23 central city wards and multiple cities, towns and villages west of the city center. The Izu and Ogasawara Islands are also part of Tokyo. Today, Tokyo offers a seemingly unlimited choice of shopping, entertainment, culture and dining to its visitors. The city's history can be appreciated in districts such as Asakusa, and in many excellent museums, historic temples and gardens. Contrary to common perception, Tokyo also offers a number of attractive green spaces in the city center and within relatively short train rides at its outskirts.
SEOUL: At first glance, Seoul is a city in a hurry. New development is shooting up around town and everyone, it seems, is rushing somewhere. This is as true in the modern business districts as it is in the maze of markets. But Seoul also has pockets of quiet—parks and palaces where the pace of life slows to a crawl as soon as one enters. While Seoul's main draw is experiencing this contrast of energy and tranquility, the city is full of excellent food, interesting arts and crafts, and has a number of impressive historic sites. Seoul is an intense city, and while great for urban explorers, travelers looking for a more relaxing experience may not want to spend too much of their trip here.

After Breakfast, proceed to Injingak– DMZ – Dora Observatory – Dora Station – Paju Shopping.DMZ (Demilitarized Zone): where the armistice was signed in 1953, ending the 3-year-long Korean War. Since then it has been the scene of on-and-off dialogue between the free South and the communist North. You go to this historic and history-making spot on a tour where in the escorted safety of UNC police, you are able to look across the Border into the world's most sealed-off society, North Korea. We travel to Imjingak River on the National Road No. 1 known also as the Road of Unification On arrival, displays of ruins of the Korean War and anti-communism materials are seen including a weather beaten locomotive on the disrupted Gyeongui Railway line, a tribune where nostalgic deserters from North Korea make tributes to home and parents in North Korea. Visit the Freedom Bridge where prisoner exchange used to take place and the Unification Pond before continuing on to the Third Tunnel. Discovered in 1978, this tunnel was dug by North Korea for invading into South Korea. At 1.6km long and only 435 m away from the southern demarcation line of DMZ, it can allow 10 000 fully armed soldiers or 30 000 lightly armed soldiers to cross within one hour! We learn more of the conflict at the DMZ theatre before taking an elevated ride into the tunnel to understand better of this impact. We end our field study at Dora Observatory located within the DMZ. Being the northern most observatory of South Korea, we can view civilian life of North Korea such as farmlands and a propaganda village. A streetscape of Gaeseong city and Kim Ilseong’s bronze statue can also be seen using the telescopes. Passing the Advance Camp that houses the UN Command Support Group with its motto “In front of them all”, we return to Seoul after a full day of learning. Overnight at the Hotel in Seoul.
